Niacinamide: The All-Rounder for Dark Spots, Pores and Shine
Look at the ingredient list of almost any Korean serum, toner or sunscreen and you will find niacinamide. It is vitamin B3, it is water-soluble, it is stable, and it is one of the few actives with solid research behind several different benefits at once.
What niacinamide does
- Evens out tone. It slows the transfer of pigment to the skin surface, so dark spots and post-acne marks fade more evenly over 8–12 weeks.
- Refines pores and shine. It regulates sebum production, which makes pores look smaller and keeps the T-zone matte for longer.
- Strengthens the barrier. It boosts ceramide production, so skin holds moisture better and reacts less.
Which concentration
2–5% is enough for barrier support and daily use – this is what you get in toners such as Anua Peach 77 Niacin Essence Toner. 10% is the treatment level for dark spots and pores, as in Anua Niacinamide 10% + Tranexamic Acid 4% Serum. Above 10% you gain little and risk redness.
How to combine it
Niacinamide is easygoing. It works with hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, centella, retinal and sunscreen. The old advice to keep it away from vitamin C is outdated – modern formulas tolerate each other. Apply it after toner and before cream, morning and evening.
Who should use it
Oily and combination skin gets the most visible benefit. Dry and sensitive skin does well with the lower concentrations. Anyone with dark spots from sun or blemishes should give it 8 weeks with daily sunscreen – without SPF, no brightening ingredient can win.
