Korean Skincare Routine for Beginners: 5 Steps, Not 10
The "10-step Korean routine" is mostly a Western invention. Most people in Korea use four to five products a day. The real idea behind K-beauty is different: gentle products, applied consistently, with sunscreen every single morning. Here is the routine we recommend to customers who are just starting.
Step 1: Cleanse (evening: double cleanse)
In the morning, water or a mild low-pH foam is enough. In the evening, an oil cleanser first removes sunscreen and makeup, then a foam or gel cleans the skin itself. Try Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Cleansing Oil followed by Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser.
Step 2: Tone
Korean toners are not astringents. They are watery hydration that preps the skin for what follows. Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner suits almost everyone; SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Brightening Toner is the choice for redness-prone skin.
Step 3: Treat
One serum or essence for your main concern. Dehydration: COSRX Snail 96 Essence. Dark spots and pores: Anua Niacinamide 10%. Sensitivity: SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica First Ampoule. Start with one; add a second only after four weeks.
Step 4: Moisturize
Gel for oily skin, cream for dry skin, barrier cream for sensitive skin. Isntree Aqua Gel Cream, Torriden Balanceful Cica Cream or Dr. Althea 147 Barrier Cream.
Step 5: Protect (morning only)
Sunscreen is the step that makes every other step work. Korean SPF50+ feels like a light lotion, so there is no excuse: Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun is our best seller.
The rules that matter more than the steps
- Introduce one new product at a time.
- Give any active eight weeks before judging.
- A sheet mask once or twice a week replaces nothing – it is a bonus.
- If it stings, stop. Korean skincare is meant to be gentle.
